Bayfield to Grand Marias - Overcast and calm in the morning then sunny and calm rest of the day. We were planning on staying at Rocky Island but bugs were bad and the place was in a state of disrepair. The seas were flat so we decided to cross. Tied up to the wall in Grand Marais. Two sail boats were a head of us so Danny picked up the pace so we could beat them to the wall. He still has that need for speed.

Madeline Island to Bayfield - Everyone is up and ready to go. Taking the gang to Bayfield to pick up their van and head home. We cleaned the boat and went to dinner at Maggie's with fellow boaters Lee and Mary Hyslop.

Stockton Island - Presquile Isle to Stockton Island - Quarry Bay- Headed to Sand Island for day trip. Anchored in front on dock as it was to shallow for us to tie up to. Lori, Tony, Ella, Evan and Susan walked to the Lighthouse. The lighthouse was under repair. Danny picked us up in the dinghy and we went threw the sandstone caves. We then went to Quarry Bay for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Kids played on the beach and looked for snakes.

Bayfield to Stockton Island - Sun in Bayfield but surrounded by fog. Headed for Stockton around 11.00 a.m. Ella is not a boater as she was sea sick again. No room at the dock so we anchored out. Played on the beach and took a nature walk to Julian Beach.

Raspberry Island to Bayfield - Stayed at the Apostle Island Marina. Jim and Karen Garriock seen us docking so came to visit. Lori, Tony, Ella and Evan arrived. We hung around Bayfield and did the tourist thing.

Quarry Bay (Stockton Island) to Raspberry Island. Calm in the morning with heavy fog. Cleared at 11.00 a.m. Walked to the Lighthouse.

Stockton Island to Oak Island. Checked out a few of the islands. Anchored at Oak Island but moved at 9.00 p.m. as wind started blowing. We went to Quarry Bay at Stockton.

July 15 - 16 2008

Sunset
Grand Marais to Stockton Island. - Left at 6.00 a.m. in a rolling sea complete with 2 to 3 foot waves from west. Flattnened out close to the Apostle Island. Tied up at the Nation Park Service dock on Prequile Isle Point. Afternoon was hot, sunny and calm. Beautiful Sunset. Stayed on Stockton. Went for a hike. Seen a bear and a deer. The dogs barked at the bear but ran for cover when the deer jumped over the trail.

July 13 - 14 2008

Pigion Point to Grand Marais MN - High Winds all day. Winds changing so we headed out around 4.00 p.m. Seas were rough. Long trip to Grand Marais. Stan from Rockin Robin lent us his truck to replenished supplies. Coast Guard boarded us to do safety check. All was ok. Later we played cards with them aboard their boat. Again that evening we had a thunder storm.

Anchored in the Hole in the Wall
Thunder Bay to Pigion Point - Hole in the Wall. There was a severe rain and wind storm last night. Headed out about 9.30 a.m. with strong S W winds. 4 to 6 foots seas and sunny. Around Victoria Island the seas were around 10 feet so we headed for shelter. Anchored in Little Trout Bay for the afternoon and then proceeded for Hole in the Wall with 6 to 8 foot seas. Anchored in the thumb. Tied ourselves in like a spider web. Windy, heavy rain, surging sea but comfortable.

Loon Harbour to Thunder Bay. Foggy and flat in the morning. Lori, Ella and Evan picked us up to get our vehicle. We are home for a few days.

CPR Slip to Loon Harbour. Clear, warm and calm. Beautiful day. Ian and Danny fished in the morning. Ian guided and Danny caught. Visited with Ava and Gord on the way, wanted to show Ian and Sharon the gardens. While enroute we went in and looked Otter Cove and Blacks Wharf. Loon Harbour had 6 boats in there. First time we seen any life on the lake.

Moss Island to CPR Slip. Ian and Danny fished in the morning and evening. Ian caught Danny drove. Watched a moose swim between the islands. Rainstorm in the morning nice and sunny in the afternoon. Sharon, Ian, Susan and Sydney hiked to the flag on the top of the hill. Danny stayed behind to do some maintenance on the boat. Tug O' the North pulled in around 2 p.m. Jean, Joe, Erin and grandchildren.

Nipigon to Moss Island. Picked up more one way guests Sharon and Ian Macadam. Late departure for anchorage at Moss Island. Ian and Danny went fishing in the Zodiac. Weather was good during the day but got windy in the evening.

Rossport to Nipigon. Great day, sunny, warm and calm. We had one way guests. My parents Moreen and Burton Phillips. Brother Joe, Sister-in-law Michele, Nephews Bret and Mark. Our route was on the north side of St. Ignace Island with a lunch stop at Caribou Island. Joe and the boys went exploring on the island and decided they would not stay in the old cabin. The mayor of Nipigon greeted us on the dock as he is married to Danny's cousin Judy. They came aboard for a visit. John and Carol Zechener visited us in the evening. We went for a visit to daughters house and met all the family.

Slate Island to Battle Island. Fog and lots of floating debris from the storm. Visited light house and the retired light house keeper Bert and his lab Dakota that he has shared custody. Lake windy but warm and sunny tucked into the bay.

An idea of the storms we have been getting

Slate Islands. Awake to a heavy thunderstorm complete with hail. Sun comes out around 10 a.m. and then a beautiful day. Picked rocks for my garden at Lampton Cove. Fished for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Fishing is great but did not keep any. Saw two kayakers and one boat from Terrace Bay.

Beautiful day. Fished in the morning. Caught many fish. The most noteworthy fish was approx. 20 lbs. on 8 lb. test line. No signs of life on this part of the island.

Slate Islands. Heavy rain all night. Heavy fog and strong winds most of the day. Stayed in and read and X stitched most of the day. Sun did come out in late afternoon and was pleasant but the winds did not subside.

Rossport to Slate Islands. We left the dock at Rossport around 3.30 p.m. when the weather cleared. Average water temp was 40 F. Dropped anchor in Pikes Bay. Saw 5 caribou on the way in.

Rossport. Outstanding beautiful day. Used my father's truck to get supplies. Visited friends in Schreiber. Had Jewel and Dale Riley for lunch. My parents, with Ed and Judy Nicol came for a visit.

CPR Slip to Rossport. Nice in the morning. Towed Ava and Gord's boat back to their camp. On the way a Severe Weather Warning came over the radio. Heavy rain with thunder and lightning. We by-passed some of the anchorages we were planning to stay in because no one wanted to go out and drop the anchor. We went to Rossport and tied up to the Government Dock.

Stayed at CPR Slip. Fished for Speckled Trout caught 4 kept 1 for dinner. Heavy rain and thunder storms in afternoon. Ava and Gord Walters brought their boat into CPR Slip to keep it protected from the storm.

Owl Island to CPR Slip. Fished in the morning. John showed Danny more secret places. Moved two whole miles. Put anchor down and backed into dock. Beautiful day. Warm, clear and light winds. Carp Diem Richard and Janice came in heading to Thunder Bay after being away for 11 months doing the Great Loop. 7000 miles, 1200 engine hours.

Stayed at Owl Island for a few days. Had a mixed bag of weather. Danny helped John with the sauna. Put in the benches, built a deck and did some wiring. Cocktail hour starts early here and work is always finished by 3 p.m. Visited Ava and Gord Walter's place on St. Ignace Island. Visited CPR Slip. The locals were there. Follow Judy and Helge Swanson and Irish Mist Murray and Donna Smeltzer. Fished for a few hours but no fish. The dogs had lots of shore time.

Otter Cove to Owl Island. Warm and clear in the cove but hit heavy scattered fog on way to Owl Island. Stayed at John and Carol Zechner.

Beautiful day. We went from Horseshoe Cove to Otter Cove. Warm, clear and no wind. Checked out a few of our favourite places. Seen local fishermen and Black's Wharf. Danny went fishing in the afternoon. Caught 6 lake trout and kept 2 for dinner.

Horseshoe Cove. Heavy rain and winds all night. The anchorage was secure. When we got up in the morning I cooked the cinnamon buns I made with the bread maker. The weather forecast is not good for the next while. We decided to go home. Thank goodness for GPS and radar as we could not see the front of the boat.

Tee Harbour to Horseshoe Cove. Brenda and Gino leave as they have to work tomorrow and want to do some fishing. We walked around the beach before leaving. Weather was warm and sunny. Took the dinghy to Porphry Island walked to the lighthouse, road was covered in windfalls and the lighthouse properties were quite run down.

Thunder Bay to Tee Harbour. Left Thunder Bay late in the afternoon due to high winds. There was flooding in the area. There was lots of floating debris and the lake looked like chocolate milk due the storm. Stayed on the east side of point. Brenda and Gino Pradal rafted with us for the evening. They had dinner waiting for us when we arrived as their boat is faster than ours. Beautiful evening.

Sawyers Bay to Thompson Island. Sailboat Tango was there for a lunch break. Walked to the south beach. First time staying a Thompson.

We had everything for weather. Hot, cold, rain squall, calm and windy. Went for a beach walk around bay and picked rocks for my rock garden. Brenda and Gino Pradal on Jenna-sis came out for dinner and went back into town.

First trip. Left in the evening when the sun came out and winds subsided. Anchored at Sawyers Bay. Did some hiking on some of our old favorite trails. Water levels were noticeably higher than last season.

Launched Potest Fieri at Thunder Bay Yacht Club. Moved the boat over to Price Arthur Landing Marina. Washed and started up all systems.
