Potest Fieri at her Winter Resting Spot - Will be Shrink Wrapped at a Later Date
Plymouth, Massachusetts - This is the end of our journey for this year. We will winterize the boat and leave it at Plymouth Boat Yard. It took 3 days to winterize and then Danny and David went to the Newport Boat Show. He did not come home with a new boat. Judi and I did the girl thing lunch and shopping. Fun was had by all. We went back to the boat on Saturday to do some last minute stuff and then headed for home. The adventure will continue next season.

Red Brook Bay to Plymouth, Massachusetts - The start to the day was overcast but the sun did come out and it was a beautiful day to cruise into Plymouth. We had to time the canal just right so we would be going with the current to make it easier. We are travelling with Judi and David Campbell (Jejuda) and Plymouth is their home port. The harbour master had us check through customs before we took our mooring ball. Danny spent the afternoon changing the oil and getting ready for the haul out.

Martha's Vineyard, Lake Tashmoo to Red Brook Bay - It was a cold, windy and overcast day, after this summers extreme heat I found this enjoyable. Jejuda caught a mooring ball and we rafted against them. It was a good day to relax, read and watch some TV. Danny fired up the Wabasto heater and we did enjoy it.

Falmouth, Massachusetts to Lake Tashmoo on Martha's Vineyard - Fall is in the air, sunny during the day and cool into the evenings. We anchored in Lake Tashmoo which is a short walk to Vineyard Haven. The crowds have died down because President Obama has left and it is after Labour Day. Judi and David Campbell (Jejuda) met us in Lake Tashmoo and moored with us. We toured the island, checked out the three towns Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. A very enjoyable weekend was had. We ate, drank and were merry.

Falmouth, Massachusetts - Sunny and warm these days with some winds. Danny worked on some motor home issues in the morning. Since we had a car we decided to do some touring on the Cape. We went to Woods Hole one day, Provincetown the next day as that is a whole day trip. Lots to see. Provincetown is on the furthest tip of Cape Cod and is the most easterly point of U.S. Lots of traffic as it is Labor Day. Tuesday Danny brought the motor home to the garage and later in the day we took the car rental back to Plymouth and David drove us back to Falmouth. We were supposed to leave on Wednesday but it was overcast, with high winds and a small craft advisory.

Falmouth, Massachusetts - We moved back to the boat at sunrise including most of our belongings. David and Judi picked us up to do a Cape Cod tour. We watched the heavy surf at Chatam Beach, went to the lavender farm, I think they grew other things, lost in the 60's, went to a local establishment for lunch. A great end to hurricane weather.

September 2 - 3, 2010

Falmouth, Massachusetts - Jim Norton picked Danny up at 5.30 a.m. to take him to the bus depot so he could catch a bus to Logan Airport in Boston so he could catch a flight to Norfolk, Virginia to pick up our motor home in Chesapeake, Virginia. I on the other hand went out for lunch and shopping with Judi Campbell who brought me to the car rental agency and I rented a car and packed it with our personal items in hurricane preparation. We do have good friends. Danny arrived back at Falmouth early Friday morning when we loaded the motor home with the stuff I packed into the car. Believe it or not we did not spend the night on the boat but in the motor home in the upper parking lot. The eye of the hurricane missed us and it went from hurricane to a tropical storm. If I did not have the media I would only say it was a bad rain and wind storm. Thank goodness.

Hadley Harbor, Massachusetts to Falmouth, Massachusetts - Beautiful day, must be the calm before the storm. To get to Falmouth we went via Woods Hole. We took as slip in Falmouth to have a secure spot to weather Hurricane Earl. Danny secured the boat with every line we had, and from every cleat on the boat. Also put more lines on the kayaks and dingy and removed everything that could potentially move. We were preparing for the worst. Judi and David Campbell (JeJuda) arrived for a visit and we went to a local establishment for lunch. Sharon and Jim Norton along with her sister Brenda and brother-in-law Colin also visited us from Owen Sound, Ontario. Nice to see everyone.

Quiet Evening at the Anchorage
Cuttyhunk, Massachusetts to Hadley Harbor, Massachusetts - A beautiful day with a light breeze as we made our way to Hadley Harbor which was about a 2 hour trip. We just changed anchorages. This anchorage is a beautiful well protected harbor which has mooring balls that you can use on a first come basis. The mooring balls are all owned by the Forbes family who Senator John Kerry is a member. We did not see him. We took the dinghy around and even went for a swim. Danny washed the boat waterline. I only went for a quick swim. Lots of boat moving in and out.

Newport, Rhode Island to Cuttyhunk Island, Massachusetts - Warm, sunny and a light breeze. Another beautiful travel day. We took the long way and travelled north around Newport Island. Cuttyhunk Island is the outermost of the Elizabeth Islands in Massachusetts and the the first site of a English settlement in New England. It was a very busy anchorage with everyone trying to take in one of the last weekends of the summer. The island is apparently like England/Ireland with narrow roads with rock walls. We walked to one of the high points to take some pictures. We had some fish and chips figuring it was local fish but when asked they said it come from Alaska. It was a great place to people and boat watch.

Mystic, Connecticut to Newport, Rhode Island - The storm is over Hurricane Danielle only brought wind and rain. We had a good ride to Newport with only rollers to contend with. We caught a mooring ball in the downtown area and in the afternoon went to town and spent the afternoon checking things out. This really is a boaters paradise I thought Fort Lauderdale had big boats but nothing like Newport. Rae and Steve Mason from Barefoot Shoes from Kincardine, Ontario who we met last year in Chicago visited with us and we did a driving tour of the mansions, quite impressive. Danny and I later went to the mansion called the Breakers, summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt, hard to believe the money some people had.
