Aerial View of Little Detroit
Oak Bay to Sturgeon Cove - A beautiful day. Calm and hot. Where are we? On our way to Sturgeon Cove we had to go thru Little Detroit, a narrow passage but deep, you have to call a security to let other boaters know that you are going to be arriving and approx. in how many minutes. Tricky to get into this anchorage but once inside beautiful. Met up with Ghost Owl Debbie and Mike Brady from Little Current and rafted with them. Janet and Brian Nix on Tranquility came in later. Danny and Mike rescued a sail boat on the rocks. Some excitement. Lots of boats in this anchorage as there is a Trailer Sailor Rendezvous. The next day was beautiful. Water temperature is now 72F and even I went swimming.

Anchor Light Attracts May Flies
Hilton Beach to Milford Haven - Overcast, rain with a high east wind. Calmed down during the evening and we had a heavy thunderstorm at dark. Woke to a boat covered in May flies. Great anchorage lots of places to dinghy to but not the right weather.

You Have to Line up the Two Lighthouses to Proceed into St. Joseph Channel
Nukchuk at Base of Lighthouse on St. Joseph Channel
Sault Ste. Marie to St. Joseph's Island - We left the Sault around 8.30 a.m. and had a beautiful ride to St. Joe's. Very sunny, but cool. We had severe wind storm after we docked. Went for dinner at the Tilton Hilton with the marina locals. Sunny and warm today but they are calling for a severe thunder storm this evening so we decided to stay put.

July 11-12, 2009

We stayed in Sault Ste. Marie for a few days and visited with friends. Saturday Danny did a few chores for Fred and Peggy McDonald and we went there for dinner on Sunday we walked to check on the progress of the Canadian lock. No one was working as I guess its not that important to get it finished as the US commericial locks are working. We went over to Del and Karen Pawliuk for dinner and Danny went for a ride in Del's new Shelby GT 500 with a super snake. All he could say was what a machine!

July 10, 2009

Batchawana to Sault Ste. Marie - Left in rain and high winds from the south. Whitefish Bay had 4' to 5' waves, with heavy rain and lightning. Cleared up and got warm just before the locks. Canadian lock was closed for repairs so we went through the McArthur Lock on the U.S. side We had about a 30 minute wait but a very pleasant experience. Tied up at the Bondar Marina and the band at the outside patio bar was singing a Gordon Lightfoot song about the Edmund Fitzgerald. We did make it across White Fish Bay.

July 9, 2009

Sinclair Cove to Batchawana Bay - Sunny and calm forecast was wrong. Best day yet! Temperature was 28 C. Stayed at the Government Dock near the reserve.

July 8, 2009

Devil's Chair
Indian Pictograph
Otter Island to Sinclair Cove - Woke up to sun and calm seas. Where are we? Went to Cape Gargantua, thru Tug Boat Channel by Devil's Chair. Decided not to stay here due to high wind forecast. Made our way to Sinclair Cove and anchored here. Danny went over to see the Indian pictographs.

July 6 - 7, 2009

Tied up at the Old Fishing Dock
Otter Island Lighthouse
Pulpwood Harbour to Otter Island - Woke up to heavy rain and fog. We are giving our new diesel heater a workout. Went old Dave's Harbour and tied up to the old fishing dock. Danny after telling me to be careful, fell through the dock into waist deep water. Bruised up his arm. Sun came out late in the afternoon and we went for hike up to the lighthouse which is still in good condition. Danny did some fishing but got skunked as it was too windy and rough. We stayed an extra day as we were hoping for some nice weather to go down to the other end of the bay in the dinghy. He did manage to go fishing and caught 2 fish.

Visitor Centre at Hattie Cove, Pukaskwa Park

Slate Island to Pulpwood Harbour - Cool night but clear and sunny in morning. We left the anchorage and headed around the south by the lighthouse. Anchored in Pulpwood Harbour for night. We took the dinghy over to Pukaskwa Park and went for a walk around the park. There were a few brave campers but the park was definitely not full.

July 4, 2009

Slate Island Lighthouse
Slate Islands - Woke up to 4 C, but turned sunny for the day. Fished in the morning but only 4 fish in total were caught. Went for a sightseeing tour in the afternoon. Everyone left around 3 p.m. as they were worried about the weather. They went to Otter Cove. We were left alone. They actually were making sure we were leaving Dodge.

Caribou on the Shore
Enjoying a Sunny Afternoon in the Back of Flatliner
Boats Jenna-sis, Potest Fieri, Flatliner and Far Cry Anchored at the Slates
Rossport to Slate Islands - In the morning we went for breakfast at Selum at Joe and Michele's camp. We then went to the Government Dock for services. The gang was just getting up and since we are the turtle of the group we made our way to the Slates. Believe it or not they all caught up with us just a few miles from the Slates. We made our way into Pike's Bay and rafted the four boats together. John's windlass broke and the anchor had to be lowered and raised by hand. There was a few caribou sightings but not as many as other years.
