Essex, Connecticut to Mystic, Connecticut - We will be waiting out a storm here. We are very thankful that we have nice, warm, dry and comfortable boat not like some of the other boaters we saw today all bundled up in rain gear. We did look at some mooring balls or an anchorage but they all seemed to out in the open so we got a slip at Fort Rachel Marina downtown Mystic. The winds did get up to 30 knots and they were forecasting 11 to 12 foots seas. Hurricane Danielle is brewing in the Atlantic. White caps in the small bay that were in. There was lots to do in this town. We went to the Mystic Seaport Museum which was very worth while. We also toured the town by foot. If you were homesick you could even go to the Tim Horton's. Rented a car on Wednesday and drove to Plymouth to look at where we will be leaving the boat in a few weeks and had lunch with Judi and David Campbell from Jejuda who live in Plymouth. We met them in the North Chanel at Maryanne's Cove.

Lighthouse Marking the Entrance to the Connecticut River
Waited for an Hour for the Railway Bridge to Open
Downtown Essex, Connecticut
Shelter Island, New York to Essex, Connecticut - East winds in the morning made for a rough ride and so we again got covered in salt spray. The Connecticut River is busy with weekend boat traffic. We took a mooring ball at Brewers Marina. Essex is a busy little town, they had a good size craft market downtown. We went to the Black Seal for dinner with Barbara and Jim Benjamin who live in the area and are Nordic Tug owners who we met in Daytona. We had a lovely evening.

Oyster Fishermen - Seems to Be a Lot of Physical Labour
Kayaks Finally in the Water
Anchorage Rule Boards
Northport, New York to Shelter Island, New York - We anchored in Coecles Harbor. It is a quite anchorage with good protection more of what we are used to. We finally took the hood ornaments off the boat, the kayaks, which have not been down since last fall. Danny and I went for a kayak ride around the harbor and even went for a quick swim. There is a few rules in this anchorage and I am sure we broke some of them. I have never seen so many rules at marinas and anchorages in New York state.

Port Washington, New York to Northport, New York on Long Island - The weather today was beautiful, now were getting to temperatures we can handle. The seas were calm. We anchored off the mooring field and took the dinghy to town to check things out. Danny had to go to work when we got back as he started the generator to find out the water pump impeller was no more good and had to be replaced. We had a rain shower this evening and had a double rainbow.

New York, New York to Port Washington, New York on Manhasset Bay, Long Island - The weather today is in the high 70's. Perfect. We travelled up the East River, everyone has heard of the East River that is where they find the bodies. The river separates Manhattan and Long Island. Lots to see. We anchored in Port Washing and went to town to pick up a few groceries. The town is quite spread out and hard to get around by foot.

New York City, New York - We stayed at Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City and took the ferry every morning to New York City. This was the marina that was recommended to us by quite a few loopers due to the calmer water, less current and the ferry leaves from that marina. The weather was great, it has finally cooled down to the way we like it, in the 70's. We took the double decker tour bus hop on and off at any of the attractions. New York City has a lot of green space and it is very well used. We did a lot of walking. This was memorable stop.

A Inflatable Boat with Wheels - When it Goes Up the Boat Ramp it Puts the Wheels Down and Can Run Around on Shore
Liberty National Golf Course Club House - It is a Private Club
Liberty Park Anchorage - We stayed here another day as we had not checked into the marina until tomorrow. We kept busy doing some chores, caught up on some paperwork and Danny had some maintenance issues to keep him busy. This anchorage is very busy with fishermen on the pier. They mostly are after the blue crabs. At the anchorage you could see Liberty National Golf Course Club House.

Garbage Line Coming into New York Harbour
Busy Harbour
New York City Skyline
New York City Garbage Barge
Statue of Liberty
Manasquan, New Jersey to New York, New York - Another hot day with a heat haze. We caught the 7.00 a.m. bridge out of Glimmer Glass Lake. The bascule bridge is defiantly not state of the art. It is slow to open and does not open fully. The bridge tenders were great. Another great travel day as the ocean is calm. One thing I can say about the New Jersey coast line is beaches. They have beaches from one end of the state to the other. We arrived in New York before noon. The harbour is very busy with boat, ships, tugs and barges in every direction. It was very impressive to arrive here with the Statue of Liberty overlooking the area. We anchored behind the statue of Liberty at Liberty State Park. It was a great anchorage with not to much boat traffic or current.
